Why digg is destined for failure

If you've ever had the good fortune of having one of your websites or blog posts dugg to the point of showing up on digg's homepage, you've enjoyed a huge traffic boost to your site. This is wonderful for web publishers, and I'm not going to lie and say that we don't care about it here at Download Squad; in fact, since the success of a given post is measured in large part by the traffic it drives to our site, it's certainly a goal of ours to have our posts make the homepage on digg.

Looks like Digg will have few more to handle .. the latest one called User/Submitter. UserSubmitter is where submitters pay the Diggers to promote their stories. The users get paid 0.5$ for every 3 diggs and the Submitters will have to pay 20$ + 1$ per each digg

The Digg Algorithm FAQ

A few days ago, Digg changed their ranking algorithm (I noticed this immediately since I am an active Digg member, but I didn’t wanted to blog about it), in such a way that now upcoming stories need even 100+ diggs to make it to the frontpage. And since Digg doesn’t offer an official FAQ (the reasons are the same why Google doesn’t offer an official algorithm FAQ - so people can’t abuse), I decided to write a few of my findings along the way. These are unofficial, unsupported points and are purely my personal ramblings. So if someone has any objections, please do comment.

This post wants to show you guys my findings about Digg’s ranking system as well as how many diggs you need to reach the frontpage, for each of Digg’s categories (please do note that this post doesn’t represent a method to let users know how they can trick Digg’s system, but a way to let users know about how the ranking system really works).

Spike the vote - cheat digg

As sites get popular and potentially change the way people start looking at Internet - you get these "cheat" sites which claim to help you utilize the cheat. Be it Adsense ,Ebay or now Digg. Spike the Vote creates a community and diggs each other's stories so that they get it on the front page

Spike the Vote works on a point system. Each day I give you a mission with several stories to Digg. 20% of your mission involves digging stories submitted by users in this community, while 80% of of your mission is completely random. This is to eliminate footprints and keep things anonymous.

You earn 1 point for each story Dugg. Once you earn enough points, you can trade them in for Diggs on your own stories.

I wonder if all these really work and Digg would come up with a way to prevent/blacklist such methods.
